It's hard to believe that the school year is coming to an end, but it is. Nine months goes by in a hurry when there's so much to do. The last few weeks have been the most hectic of the year for me as I try to get my thesis finished, and I'm sure many of my classmates feel the same way. It's too bad that it works that way--the nice weather and acceptances of job offers make this the perfect time for celebration.
One of the things I've liked best about MLOG is how quickly your classmates go from being strangers to friends. I was originally concerned about the small class size and one year length of the program being detrimental to establishing a network of career contacts, but I don't feel that way any more. As one of my classmates pointed out the focused nature of the program means that while you might only have 30 people in your cohort they are all likely headed towards supply chain related careers. It's doubtful you'll get to know that many contacts focused on supply chain management so well in a more general program such as an MBA. And though there are no 2nd year MLOGs to connect with the alumni of the program do a great job reaching out to current students when they are back for career fairs and recruiting. I'm sure the MLOG class of '06 will do the same great job supporting next year's students.

Jose,
I may post my thoughts on recruiting in a separate post. Hopefully my fellow bloggers will tackle the question as well, since it is probably a major issue for incoming students and prospective applicants. Once again though I'm not the best resource on the subject, as I've decided to stay at MIT for a PhD and therefore didn't get as heavily involved in recruiting as most of my classmates.
If any other readers have topics they'd like to see addressed feel free to let us know via comments or an email.

Bin,
I'm probably not the best resource for this because I live in an off campus apartment. I did ask a classmate about Tang Hall and this is what he had to say:
+
Very cheap - rents range from 600 to 650 dollars per month inclusive of utilities and broadband.
Good community - over 400 students live in Tang. There are socials and movies every week.
Great Activities - Tang Hall Residents Association (THRA) organizes barbecues and parties, participates in varsity sports and occasionally organizes treks etc.
Easy Access - Though it is located on the Western border of the campus, it is well connected with campus shuttles every 20 minutes during the day and city of Cambridge shuttles every half hour in the evenings.
Amenities - They have front desk staff between 8:00 a.m and 10:00 p.m and they collect and sign for all couriers and packages.
Misc - Apartments B, C and D have a breathtaking view of downtown Boston and the Charles.
-
Living Conditions - The dorm is more than 30 years old. It is not very clean and things keep breaking occasionally. The heating is not consistent across the building and some apartments are too cold or too warm in the winter. If one gets the four bedroom, living with three other room mates and one shared bathroom is not pleasant either.
Access - There are no shuttles during the weekends until 6:30 p.m. It's a long walk to campus, especially to the MLOG lab and Sloan. Tang is 15 minutes away from Central Square and 20 minutes from Kendall by walk. Hence, getting to the nearest T station during weekends is a hassle.
Overall, I would recommend Tang if one is price sensitive. It's great value for money.
If price is not an issue, Sidney Pacific or Warehouse would be better options.

Hi Tony,
I'm an incoming student as well and was very interested to read about the job offers... Can you comment on this? is it an "easy" procedure? are you satisfied with the job offers received so far? do they meet your expectations? (this could be an idea for a separate post)
Thanks,
Jose

Hi, there,
How are you?
As the incoming MLOG student, I am looking for the place to live on-campus.
I would like to choose Tang Hall or Ashdown House. I am wondering if you happen to have any suggestion on this?
Thanks in million.
Bin
