Winter vacation is one of the most highly anticipated perks of student life, and many of us have been fortunate to enjoy rest and relaxation for the three weeks. For some, the break is an opportunity for visit home, to have friends and family visit Boston and/or to escape the snow and ice for warmer climates altogether.
What I’ve found is that my definition of rest and relaxation (R&R) has changed dramatically. Surprisingly, on a few occasions, I’ve ended up going to the lab voluntarily for meetings on my thesis and to delve deeper into the literature review. More interestingly, I’m not alone. A small group of MLOGers has chosen to use Boston as a home base and either stuck around after exams or came back early to enjoy “normal” life in the city. We’ve become a close-knit group and had a lot of fun. This break has been a valuable time to reflect on the past semester, set some goals for the spring, do some part-time consulting and plan for our trip to Spain. Best part of all is that there hasn’t been any pressure.
Did I mention that we don’t begin classes again until February? Not that we’re idle. Independent Activities Period (IAP) begins on Monday, and we will be welcoming our fellow students from ZLOG and GCLOG. More on that later.
Best wishes for the New Year to all!
