Michael grew up in Dayton, Ohio and received a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Dayton. After graduation he worked in the Dayton area for a government contractor performing systems modeling. While in school he was a member of the men's rowing team, and he started coaching rowing immediately after graduation. He was the head women's rowing coach at the University of Dayton between 2005 and 2007. In 2007 he moved to Washington DC and continued to support the US Government on modeling and simulation tasks until starting MLOG. He enjoys outdoor activities, especially skiing and running.
